Egypt - Congres International - New Arrival

A set of 4 mint stamps issued in 1933 for the Congres International des Chemins de Fer, International Railway Congress, in Cairo (SG 189-92).

The stamps depict:

• Stephenson Locomotive No1, 1852;
• Stephenson Locomotive No41, 1859;
• Nelson Reid Locomotive No68, 1862;
• Steam Locomotive No787, 1932.

Egypt - Congres International

These stamps were issued in 1937, in Egypt to commemorate the 15th Ophthalmological Congress in Cairo (SG 262-4).

They show Nekhbet, patron of Upper Egypt; Wadjat, the sacred eye of Horus; and Buto, the cobra goddess, patron of Lower Egypt.

Egypt - Congres International

This set was issued in 1926 by Egypt to commemorate the Congres International de Navigation in Cairo (SG 138-40). They depict a pharaonic ship from the Temple of Deir-el-Bahari.

Egypt - Congres International

This set was issued in 1928 on the occasion of the Congres International de Medecine, International Medical Congress, and the Centenaire de la Faculte de Medecine, Centenary of the Cairo Medical Faculty (SG 176-7).

The first stamp depicts Imhotep, who is often considered the father of Egyptian medicine. The second stamp shows Mohammed Ali Pasha, who reformed Egypt in the 19th Century and set up the largest school in the country, for medical studies, in 1828.

Egypt - New Arrival

Just received today! A mint set of three stamps from Egypt, issued for the International Telecommunications Conference in Cairo (SG 269-71).

Each stamp depicts the Pyramids of Giza and one of the Colossus of Thebes.

Egypt - Congres International

These stamps, issued in 1927 on the occasion of the Congres Statistique, Statistical Congress in Cairo, depict the royal scribe Amenhotep (SG 173-5).

Although I was originally trying to restrict my collection to the topics listed on the side bar of this Blog, I came across this lovely set of mint stamps and could not resist getting them :¬). I think there's something reassuringly old fashioned about them and I've now started collecting similar items so watch this space...

They show the God Thot writing King Fuad's name in hieroglyphics. They were issued in 1925 for the Congres International de Geographie, International Geography Congress, in Cairo (SG 123-5).
