UNESCO Campaign - Centrafrica

A mint set of three stamps issued by the Republique Centrafricaine, Republic of Central Africa, in 1964 (Scott #CB1-3). Each shows the Isis of Kalabsha Temple.

The temple was originally built at Talmis and was moved to Chellal in 1970 as part of the UNESCO Campaign. It was built in sandstone blocks at the time of the Roman emperor Octavius Augustus (30 to 14 BC).

It was dedicated to the Nubian god Mandoulis, identified with the Egyptian Horus.
