Egyptian Earlies - New Arrival

This stamp was issued in 1884. It is a Green 5pi stamp, depicting the sphinx and the great pyramid, surcharged with 20pa (SG 57a).

Because the surcharge is inverted, it makes this stamp much more valuable than if the surcharged was the correct way around.

1884 - Surcharged Stamp

This is the 20pa surcharge (SG 57) on a 1879 5pi Green (SG 49).

This one is a very rare variety with a lightly printed extra surcharge a cheval. Can you see it?

Apparently, there are only two of this variety in existence (more details on the Golowe's Stamps site).
